Historical Notes

Scottish Country Dancing as we know it today, has its roots in the French Royal court and was brought to Scotland by Mary , Queen of Scots, in the sixteenth century. Since then it has developed into a style which is unique to Scotland and is hugely popular from the Northern Isles down to the border, and even further South.

The Gallivanters make great efforts to demonstrate some of the more popular dances and make every Ceilidh Dance into a party.
